vSpatial, the Virtual Reality Office, names John Sallaway as its new CEO, Chairman of the Board.

vSpatial, the Virtual Reality Office, names John Sallaway as its new CEO, Chairman of the Board.

vSpatial, a Provo based virtual reality startup, has named John Sallaway as its new CEO and Chairman of the Board. As a co-founder of vSpatial, Sallaway has been serving as the company’s Chief Operating Officer since its inception in 2016. Sallaway replaces Richard Platt, the original founder and CEO of vSpatial. Platt will continue in his role as the company’s President, with his complete focus dedicated to product development, cloud infrastructure, sales, and marketing.

Sallaway, who will assume day-to-day leadership of the company effective immediately, expressed excitement about the company’s direction.

“Technology continues to evolve how we access and use information. Good inspiration starts with good information, so we appreciate that. What has not advanced as quickly are the tools we use to leverage that information into good meetings, good forecasts, and good decisions. This is what vSpatial is about. Our application connects our users to their data and their coworkers like never before. This is about helping our users work quicker, smarter, and have a more delightful experience at the same time.”

Sallaway brings expertise in remote work and managing distributed teams. Prior to joining vSpatial, John enjoyed a successful legal career where he eventually became a managing partner of a national law firm, managing a nationally distributed team of over 50 attorneys. Through that experience, Sallaway learned first-hand the complexities of managing remote workers and distributed teams in the information and analysis-heavy legal industry.

“I know the challenges that remote workers and distributed teams face. It is not as simple as saying we are going to leave the traditional office and transition to a distributed team. Without the right tools and understanding of the complexities of relationships and work flows, remote teams fail. This is why I am so excited to bring the next generation of productivity and collaboration tools to our users. Whether you are working remotely on a business trip for a day or two or whether you are permanently placed on a distributed team, vSpatial is going to help you be better at your job and in a delightful way.”

vSpatial Board

Continuing on the vSpatial Board of Directors with Sallaway are Richard Platt and David Tucker. Both Platt and Tucker bring decades of expertise and success in the enterprise collaboration industry.

Platt was the technical founder of Selsius Systems which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998 for about $150M. Under his engineering leadership at Cisco, these original Selsius products became the Cisco Call Manager and Cisco IP Phone lines which today are a multi-billion dollar business for Cisco. Richard went on to function as a VP/GM at Cisco for a new business venture focused on small business products which he helped grow from $0 to $200M over 3 years. Richard is an author/co-author of many patents in the field of networking and communications.

Tucker was the co-founder of Selsius Systems and as its CEO guided it through a successful acquisition by Cisco where he functioned as a vice-president. He is recognized throughout the industry as an expert in telecommunications, IP networking infrastructures, sales and marketing, and building profitable business models. David is an innovative and highly focused technology business leader who assembles and leads top talent to leverage technology transitions and winning business value.

In addition to this talented board, the rest of the vSpatial Team is comprised of the brightest minds in the virtual reality world today.

New vSpatial Release with Desktop Camera, Typing Updates and Weather

New vSpatial Release with Desktop Camera, Typing Updates and Weather

Hey there vSpatial-ers! Our latest release has dropped on the Oculus store for you!  Thank you for your feedback and ideas. You help keep us on our toes, and for that, you deserve a virtual cookie. There are tons of updates behinds the scenes and a few big ones for you, our users.  Here are some highlights.

Desktop Camera

We know how scary it can be when someone sneaks up on you while you are working in vSpatial.  Now you can turn on your desktop camera and see yourself in your physical environment.

Click on the more  button in your tablet and then the camera icon to turn it on and off.

ProTip: Try pointing your webcam at your keyboard if you are one of those typing a lot in vSpatial.  That way you can see your keyboard and locate your fingers easier.

Dual-Handed Typing

We know that being able to type in vSpatial is critical so we are continuing to iterate on our keyboard. You asked for it, and now you can use both laser pointers to type in addition to typing by hitting your fists on the keys.

Weather Application

We’ve rolled out our first native vSpatial app (meaning you don’t need a computer to run this). It is a super awesome weather app. Click the “Add Screen”button and go to the top row to launch it and find out what is happening in the real world.

Pop-Up Menu Above Screens

Being able to navigate quickly around your work environment is critical.  We’ve added a quick hover menu that shows up above the screens to make it easy to resize, minimize, maximize and close.

Here are some of the other things we’ve updated to make your experience better:

  • We’re now compatible with Oculus’ Dash update.
  • Audio & mic switches to VR headset when headset is on, and switches back to defaults when taken off.
  • Many squashed bugs for improved stability. (There were a lot of guts, you guys. Glad our devs made it through.)
